Flames of War V4 Early War After Action Report. by Max Steiner

  Hello, this is my first after action report to appear on this blog.   This report covers a fight between French and German tank formations of the 3 rd Light Mechanized and 3 rd Panzer divisions somewhere in Belgium in May 1940.   The point value was almost 850 for both sides.   This is an early war battle on a 4 foot by 4 foot table.   The Germans had Panzer II and Panzer III tanks, while the French had Somua 35   and Hotchkiss 38 tanks.   The mission and played it is called annihilation in which the objective or both sides is to eliminate the other.   This can be achieved by eliminating core units of your army.   The first turn was uneventful. The second turn the first blood went to the French as the German formation commander lost his tank.   He was able to climb into the second in command’s that tank. My Thoughts on the Fourth Edition Flames of War rules

It has been a few months since the fourth edition flames of war rules set has been released. I cannot help but notice the different reactions that came from flames of war players. Some of the them have embraced the fourth edition rule set wholeheartedly. Others have had issues with the fourth edition rules. I myself have some mixed feelings on the fourth edition rules because Battlefront have split it between late war and early war versus mid war. Previously when a new edition of the rules came out it was the one rulebook that covered the entire war. I feel that the mid war rule set is somewhat incomplete. I say this because there seem to be something missing in the rules which should have been in there.  I am not talking about specific units necessarily or nationality traits. Even if the present incarnation of the mid war rulebook is meant to cover the desert war only, there should've been rules for barbed wire and entrenchments as they did have them at the time i...
